Theft Causes Prom Closet to Suffer Setback, asks for Public’s Help

(GantDaily Graphic)

CLEARFIELD – Central PA Community Action  is currently planning for its sixth year of “The Prom Closet.” Every Spring, CPCA distributes new and gently used prom gowns, jewelry, and other items to over 75 community residents in need. This program has been extremely successful and continues to grow every year with the vital and selfless support from the community. CPCA is proud to sponsor a program that makes the ever-important prom-experience accessible to as many community residents as possible.

Unfortunately, CPCA has recently discovered that nearly 20 brand-new plus-size gowns (purchased at 2009 end of season prices) were stolen from a storage location at the Dimeling. Food Bank supplies and even a fully-decorated Christmas tree have also gone missing from the Dimeling. Whether the gowns end up for sale online or if someone out there has one great dress selection for this prom season is unknown. It is a troubling thought either way. In a time when everyone is struggling and pinching pennies, CPCA will most likely see a greater demand for The Prom Closet this 2010 season. With this setback, it will be difficult to serve everyone in need, but CPCA is hoping to not have to turn anyone away. As always, CPCA is receiving offers of community support and has two fundraisers planned to benefit The Prom Closet in the near future.

If you have any information about any missing items from the Dimeling, we ask you to please contact CPCA. If you would like to make a monetary donation, gown donation, or donation of your time, please contact Gail Webster at 814-765-1551 or gwebster@cpcaa.net.
