HYDE – The Curwensville Area High School wrestling salvaged team 11th place at the second annual Clearfield Bison Duals with a 45-17 victory over Keystone in Weiss Gymnasium Saturday evening.
Back-to-back falls by Kyle Kyler at 160 pounds and Alex Holland at 171 highlighted the Golden Tide’s fourth victory of the season.
A decision by Brett Sutika (140) was the Golden Tide’s only other win on the mat as Jordan Russell (103), Greg Koptchak (112), Derek Brothers (125) and Chad Desmett (171) received forfeits.
Sutika’s 3-2 win over Tanner Hannold was a big one. Hannold, a sophomore, boasted Keystone’s best record (22-3) at the start of the day.
In pool matches, Curwensville lost to Reading 34-31, General McLane 46-30, Bradford 39-28 and Port Allegany 51-17.
Brothers was the lone Golden Tide wrestled to go undefeated, improving to 18-2 with three falls and a technical fall in addition to the forfeit.
Sutika finished 4-1, while Koptchak and Wes McGarry (145 and 152) notched three wins apiece.
The Golden Tide will take its 4-11 record to Brookville Tuesday.
Clearfield (10-0) repeated as champion of the 12-team event, edging Montoursville 37-34 in the finals for the 700th win in the history of the program that was founded by legendary coach Arther J. Weiss Sr. in 1935.
