Water Pipe Break Causes Damage at Clearfield High School

CLEARFIELD – At Monday’s special board meeting, Rick Bunning, director of buildings and grounds, said the Clearfield Area High School sustained water damage from a pipe break.

He requested they authorize the administration to apply for a Pennsylvania Department of Education mandate waiver of the bidding process and non-reimbursable project due to the resultant emergency project at the school. The board unanimously approved the same.

Bunning said he believed the water piping break occurred due to freezing coils sometime Sunday night or early Monday morning. He said offices and rooms that are located near the career center, guidance offices and cafeteria were damaged.

Bunning said he is currently evaluating the situation and going through inventory. He said the school has lost books, flooring and cafeteria supplies, etc. as a result.

Superintendant Richard C. Makin commended the custodial and other staff for their proactive response to the situation. He said because they quickly put rooms back together, it prevented more severe damage.
