DuBois City Council Responds to Letter to the Editor, Call Accusations ‘Unfounded’

DUBOIS – DuBois City Council responded to a letter written to the editor of The Courier Express by Dave Logan at Thursday afternoon’s work session.

Mayor, Gary Gilbert said it was, “very, very unfavorable stuff he said. My feeling is, you got something to say, come here and say it. Tell us to our face. As far as him thinking he’s gonna hire watchdogs to watch over us, the only thing I can say to him is ‘bring it on, buddy’. Knock yourself out because there is nothing going on here that we’re afraid to tell anybody. Absolutely nothing”

Diane Bernardo, council member, stated that she had called him every day so that she could discuss the selection process but did not hear back from him. Instead he chose to write a letter to the editor, which she said was “totally out of line and unfounded”.

She said, “I had a list of all the great things you have done since I’ve been on council. Anybody who would even begin to attack an individual who has garnered millions and millions of dollars for us, been the point person for the recent buying of land, getting grants and leading our city forward with technology we need, been the point person for Tractor Supply coming in, I just think it’s a shame.” She went on to say that Nick Hoffman really put it into perspective by saying, “we are nobody’s puppet.”

Former Mayor, and current City Manager, John “Herm” Suplizio said, “It’s very simple, and simply put, it’s all lies, is what it is. He takes the First Amendment, the freedom of speech, and thinks you can write whatever you want. It doesn’t matter if it’s true or not. Because none of his statements were true. Bottom line is this, I’ve been sitting up here for 10 years and Dave Logan’s been in this building once or twice. “

Suplizio stated that the meetings are open to anyone, and they want residents to come to the meetings.
