Curwensville Woman Pleas Guilty to Purchasing, Furnishing Alcohol to Minors

CLEARFIELD – A 32-year-old Curwensville woman who was accused of purchasing and providing alcohol to minors entered a guilty plea during Centralized Court Wednesday at the Clearfield County Jail.

Juanitha Leach Anderson, 32 of Curwensville, entered a guilty plea to selling or furnishing liquor or malt or brewed beverages to minors. She was also originally charged with corruption of minors; the charge was withdrawn, however.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, Tpr. Adam K. Gibson, of the Clearfield State Police, was dispatched to Curwensville Borough for a reported underage drinking party on Dec. 6, 2009.

He said while en route to the scene, he and another trooper were further advised a male juvenile who was present had fled the area on foot. He said he was described as wearing only a T-shirt at the time.

At arrival, troopers were advised the male had returned to the scene. He was interviewed on scene in the presence of his mother.

In court documents, Gibson reported that the juvenile said he was “hanging out” at Anderson’s residence on Dec. 5, 2009. He said several other minors were present. He said the defendant had purchased and provided them with alcoholic beverages.

Gibson indicated the male juvenile admitted to consuming several drinks. He said he took off on foot once he learned his mother had been contacted.

Gibson said he also interviewed a second male juvenile who was also in the presence of his mother at the scene. He said he related he was at Anderson’s residence on Dec. 5.

He also said she had purchased malt beverages and provided them to everyone present. He admitted that he consumed several drinks while at the residence.

Gibson said he interviewed Anderson at her residence on Dec.6. She related numerous minors were there on Dec. 5. She, however, denied purchasing the alcoholic beverages.

She admitted she permitted the individuals who were present to consume alcohol.
