Brockway Man Arrested for Stabbing that Occurred in DuBois

DUBOIS – The DuBois City Police Department released the name of the man alleged to have stabbed another man outside of a bar in DuBois.

Police said that on Jan. 3 at 1:58 a.m. they responded to DRMC for a report of a man with several stab wounds. Officers initially heard that the stabbing had occurred at the East Side Sports Bar several minutes earlier. The DuBois man who had been stabbed was transported to the hospital by private vehicle.

Officers then responded to the East Side Sports Bar. Their investigation revealed that the stabbing occurred in the rear parking lot of the bar during an altercation between the DuBois man and Howard J. Getz of Brockway.

According to witnesses both men had been inside the bar prior to the incident and were involved in an altercation near the pool table. Witnesses told police that Getz flashed a knife. Getz was then told to leave the bar. He was escorted out and told not to return.

Police said that about an hour later, when the DuBois man left the bar he was confronted by Getz, who was still in the parking lot. A verbal and physical altercation occurred and Getz reportedly stabbed the other man multiple times. Getz then fled the scene on foot.

The DuBois man was assisted inside the bar where other patrons attempted first aid bandaged his wounds. He was then transported to DRMC by private vehicle then flown by helicopter to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital for further treatment.

Getz was discovered at his Brockway residence and taken into custody. He was released to state parole agents and incarcerated in SCI-Houtzdale for violating his parole. He will be charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and recklessly endangering another person as well as other charges.
