LTPD, Federal Authorities: ‘Hostage Situation’ Ruled Scam

CLEARFIELD – The Lawrence Township Police Department today reported they conducted an investigation, in conjunction with the Federal Bureau of Investigation field offices in Pittsburgh and Johnstown, into a “hostage situation” that was later determined to be a scam.

According to the report, a Jamaican male was demanding a sum of money in exchange for the release of four hostages. Police said the Clearfield County Department of Emergency Management received numerous telephone calls from the male.

Police said they and federal authorities were able to trace the phone number to a residence in Kingston, Jamaica. They determined that the incident was a scam for U.S. Currency.

Police said that the federal authorities will be investigating the matter further.
