DCPD Releases Identify of One Fire Victim, Other ID Pending Testing

DUBOIS – On Tuesday the DuBois City Police Department released the identity of one of the males who died in the fatal fire on Jared Street on Dec. 18.

According to police one of the victims has been identified as 43-year-old Robert M. Konz, 5 S. Jared St., Apt. 7. Police said that the second victim’s identity cannot be confirmed and is pending the completion of genetic testing.

Police also said that a state police fire marshal determined that the fire originated in a first floor apartment and that it was accidental in nature.

According to a prior Gant article, emergency responders were called out on Dec. 18 at around 7:06 a.m. Firefighters from around the area battled the blaze at the Jared Street apartment complex throughout the day. Police said at a press conference that everyone who could be was evacuated from the building and that one family was rescued from a fire escape.

Also located in the building was the DuBois Food Bank. Food drives are currently under way in DuBois to help replenish the food bank, and donations are also being accepted to help those displaced by the fire.
