Lady Tide Beaten by Lady Rovers 47-35

BROCKWAY – The Curwensville Lady Tide basketball team fell to 0-2 on the season with a 47-35 defeat to Brockway Tuesday night on the Lady Rovers home court.

It certainly wasn’t for lack of effort that Curwensville went down, for the Lady Tide hustled the entire 32 minutes. The offense had a balanced scoring night, which hadn’t been seen in awhile, as six Lady Tide put points on the board.

Lady Tide head coach Rusty McCracken spoke of the offensive effort afterwards, “I was really pleased with our balanced scoring this evening. It’s so nice to see everyone get into the act.”

Brockway, now 1-2 on the year, fell behind the Tide after one quarter 9-7 but doubled up their visitors in the second stanza 14-7 to take a five point halftime lead at 21-16.

The Lady Tide made 7 of 14 from the charity stripe in the second quarter to keep them within striking distance. In that frame the Tide did not make one field goal.

In a complete turnaround, Curwensville didn’t shoot one free throw in the second half while the Lady Rovers took 21, with 16 coming in the fourth period alone.

Brockway outscored the Tide 26-19 in the second sixteen minutes as Michelle Mancuso, who led all scorers with 13, hit for nine second half points. She was helped offensively by teammates Sarah Anderson with 10 and Jalina Sabatose with 8.

Tess Bloom paced the Lady Tide with nine points, with a half court three pointer at end of the third quarter pulling the Tide to within four, 31-27. That would be the closest the Tide would get the rest of the night.

Taylor Bumbarger and Savannah Strickland each had eight points in the balanced Curwensville scoring attack.

McCracken added, “Overall, the hustle is there. I can see us improving even after just two games.”

Brockway made a clean sweep of the evening by winning the junior varsity tilt 31-8.

Curwensville will play its first home game of the season when they host Ridgway Friday night at Patton Hall with JV action starting at 6 pm.
