CLEARFIELD – The 2009 Clearfield County SPCA holiday Wish Tree is decorated, twinkling and waiting for area residents to surround its branches with the items the organization needs to provide for the animals in its care.
Waggin’ Trains pet supply store, 1226 South Second Street in Clearfield, is hosting the Wish Tree for the second year. The tree will be on display and gifts will be accepted until Jan. 9, when the collection will be delivered to the shelter on Graham Station Road, according to Shari Trythall of Waggin’ Trains.
Last year’s tree produced significant donations to the SPCA and officials are hoping for continued generosity from the community.
“The holidays are a traditional time for people to donate to us and we are so grateful for the support. The Wish Tree works so well because it provides a central location for people to learn what we need and, more importantly, a central location to drop off their donations,” noted SPCA Executive Director Pam Smith.
New this year is the option – for shut-ins only – of having donations, other than money, picked up, according to Wish Tree co-organizer Beth Hallstrom.
“We want to make sure everyone has the opportunity to join in the holiday fun,” she said.
The 2009 Wish List includes: rugs, towels, blankets, laundry detergent, paper plates, paper towels, copier paper, 33-gallon trash bags, bleach, plain clay cat litter and Kong brand toys.
“Of course, money is always needed and appreciated. We depend solely on donations to operate so your dollars could literally be keeping the lights on,” Smith said.
Waggin’ Trains is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Monetary gifts may be mailed to Waggin’ Trains or to the SPCA shelter, 541 Graham Station Road, Philipsburg, 16866.
