Clontz Enters Guilty Plea

CLEARFIELD – The scheduled trial for a Falls Creek man accused of attempting to rape a girl while they were delivering newspapers ended before it began.

John Clontz faces charges of false imprisonment, indecent assault, terroristic threats, recklessly endangering another person, harassment and corruption of minors.

Prior to his scheduled trial on Thursday Clontz entered a plea of guilt to the above charges.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, on Aug. 8 Clontz, had asked a 15-year-old girl to assist with his paper route in Treasure Lake.

The girl reported to the police that Clontz said that he would pay for her to have sex with him. She ignored the comment, but Clontz began making physical sexual advances in the vehicle. She told police that Clontz kissed her and attempted to put his hands down her pants. She stopped him from putting his hands down her pants.

She said he would stop, only to start up again a short time later. She said that Klontz physically restrained her during the alleged assault.
At one point the girl convinced Clontz to let her use the restroom at Flipper Lake, which Clontz did. She told police that she was scared to death and was trying to call for help on her phone.

The girl’s mother eventually called Clontz’s cell phone. The girl was able to talk to her mother, according to the report, but due to Clontz’s proximity, unable to ask for help.

After the girl’s mother called Clontz and the call ended Clontz told the girl he would kill her “right now” if he told anyone about what was going on. The girl then texted her mother and who advised to leave the vehicle.

When Clontz next stopped, the girl attempted to leave the vehicle. She told police that Clontz floored it at that time and she fell from the vehicle. She said Clontz came back, and she ran to a house with a guy on the porch and that Clontz left the scene.

During a taped interview with the police Clontz admitted to some intimate kissing and accidentally touching the girl’s breast.

Prior to sentencing Clontz will have to undergo a Megan’s Law assessment.
