Fiber Optic Line to Run Through NC PA

CLEARFIELD – Construction will soon begin on a fiber optic line that will run through Northern/Central Pennsylvania. Gwin Dobson of InfraSource Underground Construction Services (IUCS) LLC, informed the Lawrence Township Supervisors that the final set of plans were in the mail and construction would soon begin on the project.

Northeastern ITS construction would create 420 jobs in Pennsylvania, contracting with over 20 Pennsylvania firms. Direct spending is estimated at $33.2 million in goods and services and $1.25 million in sales, withholding taxes and permit fees. Once the fiber optic cable is installed, it will “provide a carrier neutral telecommunications backbone for the delivery of next generation telecommunications services for Northern Pennsylvania communities.”

Construction is anticipated to begin in January 2010. The plans have already been approved by PennDOT. The period of construction should take between three to four weeks. IUCS will use door hangers to notify residents who will be impacted by the installation. A hotline number, 1-888-821-1598, is provided for residents to call for any questions or concerns they may have.
