TROUTVILLE – State police in DuBois are investigating a fatal hit-and-run accident that claimed the life of a 6-year-old girl just outside of Troutville Tuesday morning.
According to police a 42-year-old Burnside woman and her 10 passengers were traveling east on state Route 410 when she struck the child, who was crossing the road. Police said the Burnside woman continued to travel east because she believed that she struck a deer. A short way down the road the driver and passengers checked the vehicle and discovered minor front-end damage. The driver then continued on her way.
The child, who police say was walking to the school bus stop, was taken back to her residence where she was later pronounced dead by Clearfield County Deputy Coronoer Deanne Haines.
Police located the vehicle at the woman’s place of employment a short time later.
Investigators were assisted at the scene by the Sykesville Volunteer Fire Department, Brady Township Fire Department and Rescue, Pennsylvania State Police Troop C Forensic Services and Troop C Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Team. Police were also assisted at the scene by various members of area fire police teams.
The investigation continues by the state police and Clearfield County District Attorney’s office.
