CLEARFIELD – An early-morning motor-vehicle accident in the westbound lane of Interstate 80 left one man injured and an unknown hazardous material for clean-up crews to contend with.
According to the state police in Clearfield Craig Gute of Ohio was traveling on I-80, westbound near milemarker 118 when he traveled off the south berm and struck the guide rail. He continued to travel west onto an embankment where his vehicle, a Mack truck with twin-trailers, overturned onto its passenger side.
Gute was flown to Altoona Regional for treatment of unspecified injuries. It is unknown if he was wearing his seat belt.
Police said his truck was carrying an unknown hazardous material. Eagle Towing and Elk County Hazmat were contacted.
The Clearfield County Emergency Management Agency reported earlier Tuesday that both westbound lanes of Interstate 80 between milemarkers 111 and 120 would be closed for an unspecified amount of time.
The police report did not specify if the accident was the cause for the road closure.
Police were assisted at the scene by Clearfield Emergency Medical Services, Clearfield EMA and Clearfield Fire Department.
