CLEARFIELD – Denise Long, president of Mountain Laurel Kennel Club, announced recently that proceeds from the club’s annual Pie Sale will be used to assist county food pantries.
But there will be a slightly different twist this year in that these funds will be ear-marked for dog food.
This is the fifth year MLKC has held a pie sale at Goodman’s Foodliner in Curwensville to raise funds for worthy causes. In the past they have used the funds to purchase a bullet proof vest for a K-9 Officer, sets of pet oxygen masks for every rescue unit in the county, and animal manikins for the Red Cross which are used for Pet First Aid and CPR classes. In this economy, if a family needs to visit a food pantry to help stretch their budget, chances are they have little left to provide for their pets’ nutritional needs. It is a well known fact that in difficult financial times, families may have no choice but to surrender their pets. That kind of a decision can be heartbreaking for a family to make and it can put an additional burden on rescue groups and animal shelters.
The pie sale is set for Nov. 14 at Goodman’s Foodliner in Curwensville from 9:00 a.m. until the pies are gone. Blueberry, apple, chocolate chip. peanut butter, rhubarb and pumpkin are just some of the choices buyers will have. Pies are $10.00 each. Club members who wish to contribute pies to the sale should contact president Long at 765-1818. The club will also accept donations of cash for the cause if donors are so inclined.
