Wrestling Officiating Classes Offered at Clarion University

CLARION – Clarion University and the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) will be conducting Wrestling Officiating Classes each Tuesday, Oct. 20 and 27, and Nov. 3 in Tippin Gymnasium room 205 beginning at 6:30 p.m. The classes are free to any Clarion University student with a valid I.D. Others interested in attending must pay a $30 fee.

Participants in the START program for wrestling will attend three sessions on consecutive weeks. The first session will be a distribution of information packets, rule books and officiating basics. Session two will be rules education class and question and answer period and the third session will be a PIAA rules certification test. Current PIAA officials will conduct the sessions. Once certified, participants will be provided the opportunity to begin officiating locally in PIAA events. Participants must attend all three sessions. Preregistration is not required.

The classes are part of the START (Students of Today Are Referees of Tomorrow) program created to encourage current students, particularly student-athletes, to \”stay in the game\” by becoming an official. The START program is sponsored by the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference and other small college conferences in Pennsylvania.
