HIGHLAND – Two Clearfield residents died as a result of a motor vehicle accident in Highland Township on Saturday afternoon.
According to state police in Ridgway, 19-year-old Levi Rowles and his passenger, 38-year-old Carla Rowles, were traveling north on state Route 948 in a Mercury Sable. Mark Peterson of Bradford was traveling south along state Route 66 in a Freightliner tractor trailer. Both vehicles approached the intersection, and as they did so Levi Rowles failed to stop for a posted stop sign and pulled into Peterson’s path.
The Elk County Coroner pronounced both Levi and Carla Rowles dead at the scene. Both were wearing the seat belts. Peterson was uninjured.
Police were assisted at the scene by Highland Township and Kane Volunteer Fire Departments.
