Inmate Injures Five Corrections Officers at SCI-Houtzdale

HOUTZDALE – State police are investigating an assault by an inmate that left five corrections officers injured at the State Correctional Institution at Houtzdale Tuesday morning.

According to the report, corrections officers responded to break up a fight between the accused, a 23-year-old inmate, and another inmate. The 23-year-old refused to comply and allow guards to handcuff him. The report states that things escalated to the point where the accused went after one of the CO’s. This forced the other CO’s to take him to the ground, where he continued to struggle.

The report indicated that the CO’s involved required medical attention for minor injuries.

Police stated that charges are pending in the matter.
