Jerry Greenfield, co-founder and owner of Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream, will speak at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, in the Paul R. and Margery Wolf Kuhn Theatre at Penn State Altoona.
In 1978, after completing a correspondence course on ice cream-making from Penn State, Greenfield and friend Ben Cohen opened Ben and Jerry’s Homemade ice cream scoop shop in an old gas station in downtown Burlington, Vt. Two years later, the pair rented space in an old spool and bobbin mill and began packing their ice cream in pints. The company has since opened almost 200 franchised shops, exists in 31 countries, and offers 64 flavors of ice cream.
The event is free, but tickets are needed. They can be picked up at the bookstore or the box office on the Penn State Altoona campus.
