Clearfield Borough gets Main Street Designation

CLEARFIELD – Clearfield Borough Mayor Patty Gilliland is delighted to announce Clearfield has once again earned the Main Street Designation from the State. The last time Clearfield was able to boast this designation was in 1980, bringing the revitalization of Market Street and several buildings.

The program will bring more federal and state funding for improving and revitalizing downtown Clearfield.

After working for almost two years to meet the program requirements, volunteers of the Clearfield Revitalization Corporation are looking forward to interviewing and hiring a Main Street Manager this fall.

Gilliland encourages local leaders, planning agencies, economic development agencies, city government, businesses, and individuals to apply the Main Street approach to what they are doing now. She encourages them to view traditional commercial buildings as an asset to our community and to see the downtown and neighborhood commercial districts as an area full of opportunity to renew our community’s sense of identity, history and place.

Commercial revitalization is an ongoing process. The Clearfield Revitalization Corporation , CRC a 501c3 non-profit organization, was formed to strengthen the downtown’s commercial activity and improve it’s buildings, to ensure proper leasing, management and marketing for the downtown district that needs ongoing attention to ensure continuing economic success.

Mayor Gilliland makes reference to the quote “Little Communities and individual property owners may not realize that the commercial district is like the book cover of the town. If you don’t have an attractive cover, no one will open the book.”

There will be additional information released in the near future regarding the Main Street manager.
