Sykesville Man Accused of Assaulting Infant Arrested; Infant in Stable Condition

SYKESVILLE – A Sykesville man has been taken into custody for the alleged assault of a 10-week-old child.

According to state police in DuBois, on Aug. 23 the child was flown from DRMC to the Children’s Hospital. The DuBois state police criminal investigation unit, along with the Jefferson County District Attorney’s office, Allegheny County Child Advocacy, Children’s Hospital Medical Staff and Jefferson County Children, Youth and Family Services have been conducting an investigation into the infant’s injuries.

On Aug. 26 David Allen Peters was taken into custody and arraigned on charges of aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person, endangering the welfare of a child and simple assault. He was placed in Jefferson County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.

According to police the child remains in stable condition at the Children’s Hospital and is being treated for an arm fracture, bleeding from the brain and other injuries.
