Despite the efforts of the track crews, the NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Pocono Raceway has been postponed.
Rain has plagued the track all weekend. Qualifying was rained out on Friday afternoon following a shortened practice session. Rain began falling at the track early Sunday morning but let up shortly before noon. Fog then came over the speedway while the jet driers were on the track.
Efforts to dry the track continued into the mid-afternoon despite many intermittent rain showers. The weepers in the corners began to flood with all the water.
NASCAR President Mike Helton made the call at around 4:15 p.m. to postpone the race because the amount of time to dry the track would take too long and they would not be able to get the entire event in before darkness.
The green flag is set to fall on the Pennsylvania 500 Monday at 12:15 p.m. Coverage will be on ESPN.
