Public Hearing Aug. 5 in Harrisburg; Comments Accepted Through Aug. 6
HARRISBURG– The commonwealth’s plan for using federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds to weatherize tens of thousands of housing units and put nearly a thousand people to work is now open for public comment, Gov. Edward G. Rendell said.
Comments on the state’s revised state weatherization plan will be accepted through Aug. 6, with a public hearing to be held on Aug. 5. The hearing will be held from 9:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. in Hearing Room 4, Plaza Level, Keystone Building, 400 North St., Harrisburg.
The revised plan will guide the allocation of $252.8 million in federal recovery funds for the Weatherization Assistance Program, which helps low-income households decrease energy consumption and costs.
Using the federal recovery funds, the state expects to weatherize almost 30,000 housing units over the next two to three years and put an estimated 940 people to work, Governor Rendell said.
The commonwealth worked extensively with the U.S. Department of Energy to improve and enhance the original plan to better build capacity, speed up implementation, and improve accountability.
