Clearfield County Applies for Grant to Prevent Homelessness, Rapidly Re-House

CLEARFIELD – On Tuesday the Clearfield County Commissioners approved applying for a grant aimed at preventing homelessness and rapid rehousing.

The grant is in the amount of $374,629, and is through the state through the Department of Community and Economic Development.

The program was authorized by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. The purpose of the HPRP grant is to provide homelessness prevention assistance to households who would otherwise become homeless, many due to the economic crisis, and to provide assistance to rapidly re-house people who are homeless.

The Clearfield County Planning and Community Development Office will administer the program in Clearfield County while services will be provided to people and families by the Clearfield-Jefferson Mental Health/Mental Retardation Program, Central PA Community Action and Mid Penn Legal.

The program will provide case management, budget credit counseling, rental assistance, utility assistance, legal services and moving expenses. All households assisted with HPRP funds must meet certain income guidelines. For more information on those guidelines, contact the Clearfield County Planning and Community Development Office.
