CLEARFIELD – Clearfield Hospital Hospice will host a butterfly release at Chili Bowl 2009 on Sept. 17 at 6 p.m. Live Monarch butterflies will be released from the Clearfield Driving Park to honor the living and in memory of deceased loved ones.
Butterflies will be available to the public at a cost of $15 per butterfly. People may reserve the Monarchs by calling Dana Wilson, hospice volunteer coordinator, at 768-2007. All proceeds benefit hospice patients.
Checks should be made payable to “Clearfield Hospice Chili Bowl” and mailed to Chili Bowl 2009, c/o Clearfield Hospice, PO Box 992, Clearfield, Pa., 16830.
Donors should provide their name, address and phone number and the name of the honoree or memorial. All names will be included in service/programs unless hospice is otherwise notified.
Sponsors should plan to arrive at the Expo II Building at the Clearfield Driving Park no later than 5:45 p.m. They will be registered and directed to the release site where a heart-warming ceremony will take place.
The butterflies are provided by Jodi Hopper of “Wish Upon a Butterfly” from New Castle. Monarchs are very friendly butterflies that represent freedom and happiness. Their release is not only environmentally safe, but it helps to contribute to the restoration of their population in the area, according to Wilson.
“Hospice is about hope and healing the spirit even though the body is too fragile to repair. Butterflies have long been a symbol of hospice, and are symbolic of change and new beginnings,” Wilson said.
