Auto Accident Claims One Life, Leaves Two Others Injured

WINSLOW TOWNSHIP – A Sykesville woman died as the result of a traffic accident that also left two others injured.

According to state police in DuBois, 21-year-old Brookville woman was traveling east on Pointview Road on Tuesday at 10 p.m. at a high rate of speed for road conditions. She droe off the edge of the road and struck a large boulder with the right front of her Jeep Grand Cherokee, which caused her vehicle to overturn several times.

The Jeep rolled partway down an embankment and struck a large tree before coming to rest on its roof.

Police said that the Brookville woman was wearing a seat belt and suffered injuries of an unknown severity.

Police said they did not know if the passenger from the right-front part of the vehicle was wearing a seat belt. Police also said it was unknown if that passenger, 23-year-old Allison Knouse of DuBois, was ejected from the vehicle or if she was able to get out of the vehicle on her own. According to the report she was found by fire and emergency services personnel sitting against a tree in a wooded area opposite a set of railroad tracks at the bottom of the embankment. Knouse suffered major injuries.

According to police Knouse and the Brookville woman were airlifted to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh by STAT MedEvac.

The right-rear passenger, 23-year-old Kari Young of Sykesville, was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle onto the roadway. Police said that she succumbed to her injuries prior to the arrival of medical personnel. Jefferson County Coroner Bernard P. Snyder responded and pronounced Young dead at the scene.

Police said that the Reynoldsville Fire Department, Reynoldsville Police Department and Reynoldsville Ambulance assisted at the scene.

Police noted in their report that the Brookville woman will face charges and that alcohol was involved.
