City of DuBois Makes Land Purchase

DUBOIS – The City of DuBois is in the process of purchasing land for $2.1 million in an effort to improve the city’s water supply.

This land is 1,262 acres positioned across from the city’s water treatment plant.

“We are looking for an alternate source of water,” said City of DuBois Mayor John “Herm” Suplizio after the meeting “This will position us better for the future.”

There is water under this property, but the exact location isn’t known at the time being. There are no plans for construction at this time either.

Funding for this purchase is in the form of a bond acquired back in February. The mayor assured, when asked by the public, that this would not lead to a raise in taxes.

There are more immediate changes to the water system. The city has voted to accept an offer by S&T Bank to allow for free Account Clearinghouse Payment, ACP, for DuBois citizens.

This program will allow DuBois citizens to pay their water bills online.

Notification of how to opt into the program will be sent out with water bills.
