Bomb Dogs Called in for Philipsburg Lawn Mower/Fireworks Case

PHILIPSBURG – Bomb dogs were called in to help in an ongoing investigation concerning fireworks mortars in a Philipsburg man’s yard.

Police reported on Wednesday that a 46-year-old Philipsburg man had his lawn mower damaged after he ran over “baseball-sized” fireworks mortars while moving his lawn in the Linnwood Development Tuesday afternoon, the Philipsburg State Police reported.

According to the report, the incident of criminal mischief occurred at approximately 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. Police said the man told them that while cutting his grass on a riding lawn mower, he ran over the first fireworks mortar. He notified police that it detonated and caused damage to the front of his lawn mower.

Police indicated that the man continued cutting his grass and shortly after ran over another fireworks mortar. He told police that it too detonated and blew the grass catcher off the rear of his lawn mower. At police arrival, troopers searched the yard and another mortar was found as a result. Police stated that it was secured and handled appropriately.

Police reported on Thursday that K9 bomb dogs were brought in to search the Linnwood area. The results of that search are pending.
