CPCA to Host First-Time Home Buyers Workshop

PHILIPSBURG – Central PA Community Action, in cooperation with the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency, is pleased to offer a workshop for first-time home buyers on July 18 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The workshop will focus on educating participants on the steps to finding, financing, and purchasing a home. CPCA is a local non-profit that has been serving the communities of Centre and Clearfield counties since 1965.

Topics will include saving and budgeting for homeownership, the benefits of owning, understanding credit, the home buying process, and avoiding predatory lenders. The workshop will also provide attendees with information on mortgages available to first-time buyers and how to benefit from the 2009 first-time buyer tax credit of up to $8,000.

This workshop is a great opportunity to learn the basics of homeownership for anyone that is interested in purchasing a home in the current market or in the distant future. Participation in this workshop, which is certified by PHFA, fulfills requirements many lenders are now asking of borrowers. With home prices and interest rates falling, now can be the perfect opportunity for many first-time buyers. The workshop may also be beneficial to those struggling with poor credit or down payment issues.

The workshop will be held at the Moshannon Valley YMCA of Philipsburg. There is no cost to attend, and complimentary lunch will be provided. Anyone interested in attending should contact Jarod Taylor or Tia Lansberry at 814-765-1551 or 1-800-822-2610.
