CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield County Recreation and Tourism Authority cautions local businesses, attractions and nonprofits to exercise caution and be sure of
who they are doing business with when asked to purchase advertising or materials claiming to be tourism or travel related.
The caution stems from reports from several CCRTA partner businesses about being contacted by a representative from a map company that claimed to be in partnership with the local tourism bureau to produce a Clearfield County map. CCRTA has not contracted with nor been asked to endorse any map project.
The businesses report that the caller claims to be a local company, working with the tourism bureau, and that in order to be included in the project they need to verify and release a payment by phone check. Fortunately, CCRTA staff have received no reports from businesses that actually provided their bank information over the phone.
CCRTA is currently selling advertising for its 2010 travel planner and other cooperative marketing packages. Heather Barnett, the CCRTA Travel
Development Specialist, is the advertising and group sales contact for CCRTA. She as well as all other CCRTA staff have photo identification should a business question the authenticity of the advertising offer or other tourism services offered.
Businesses, attractions and event representatives with questions about the 2010 Travel Planner or other CCRTA projects may call 765-5734.
