Teenager Tazed During Tussle with Law Enforcement

REYNOLDSVILLE – A 17-year-old boy was tazed after he reportedly assaulted a state trooper on Saturday.

According to state police in DuBois, Trooper Arnold Stutsman and Officer Gary Bassinger of the Reynoldsville Police Department were responding to a possible underage drinking party when they witnessed the 17-year-old drive his vehicle into Renlow Park. Both officials questioned him as to why he was there.

Bassinger conducted a pat-down of the boy and drug paraphernalia was discovered. Stutsman told the boy he was under arrest and requested that he place his hands behind his back.

Police stated that the boy resisted arrest and punched Stutsman on the side of his head. The boy was finally subdued and restrained after Stutsman tazed him.

According to police a witness at the scene saw the boy open a hunting knife during the tussle. The knife was dropped when the boy was tazed.

The boy was charged through the Jefferson County Juvenile Probation Department with the following:
-Aggravated assault on a police officer
-Simple assault
-Resisting arrest
-Possession of drug paraphernalia

A passenger in the vehicle, Timothy Irvine, provided false identification to law enforcement and was placed in Jefferson County Jail for a probation violation. Charges are pending against Irvine.
