Penn State DuBois Offers Telecommunications Technologies Certificate Program

DUBOIS – With unemployment rates soaring, professionals at Penn State DuBois want to help people get back to work. The latest program designed to provide quick and affordable new skills to people seeking new career opportunities is the Telecommunications Technologies Certificate Program. Those who earn the industry recognized certificate will be qualified for jobs in some of the fastest growing fields in the country including telephone and computer networking, cable and satellite system operation and repair, and more.

“This program will be especially beneficial to dislocated and unemployed workers in our area, to prepare them quickly for a new career,” said Continuing Education representative Jeannine Hanes, noting that the program can be completed in just 105 hours.

Hanes also explained the stability of the telecommunications field, even during the current state of the economy. “The telecommunications field continues to grow,” she said. “Broadband technology is not only a key piece of the Federal economic stimulus package, but a necessity for rural PA to be sustainable through these tough economic conditions.”

Four unique courses within the program will teach students the basics of both copper and fiber optic based systems through both classroom and hands-on training.

An overview of the course is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on July 14 at Penn State DuBois. Benefits of the training and possible financial aid or funding sources will be discussed. To reserve a seat at the overview, call Betsy Carlson at (814) 372-3005.
