Sinnemahoning State Park Notes Upcoming Weekend Events

SINNEMAHONING – The following programs will be offered this week at Sinnemahoning State Park.

FRIDAY, JUNE 19

7 p.m. – Friday Night at 40 Maples – Sinnemahoning State Park offers the visitor a variety of wildlife experiences. Join the park naturalist at the 40 Maples Day Use Area for a short evening wildlife walk. We will go over some wildlife watching tips and walk a short distance to our newly constructed viewing blind. Binoculars will be provided. Water and insect repellent are recommended.

SATURDAY, JUNE 20

10 a.m. – Lowlands Trail Hike – Meet at the 40 Maples Day Use Area for a morning lowlands trail hike. Join the park naturalist for this easy hike through wetland and wooded areas. Field guides and binoculars will be provided or bring your binoculars if you have them. Water and insect repellent are recommended.

4 p.m. – Afternoon Adventures – Connect to the outdoors and nature on our afternoon adventure. Meet the park naturalist at the campground amphitheater and join us for a short hike on the Red Spruce Trail. It’s an easy hike approximately one mile long. Hiking shoes, water and insect repellent are recommended.

8:30 p.m. – The Mysterious Rattlesnake – Branded as evil and aggressive, this valuable woodland predator has been senselessly destroyed, the victim of our uneasiness and fear. We now have discovered that our greatest enemy is not the snake… it is ignorance. The more you find out about rattlesnakes, you will find out that they are one of the most fascinating groups of animals on earth. Please come and join our park naturalist, at the campground amphitheater. As she will set aside your fears and allow the gentle light of understanding foster a new respect for this most mysterious, yet fascinating animal. We will watch the video, “The Timber Rattlesnake: Shadow of Misunderstanding”.

SUNDAY, JUNE 21

Pontoon Boat Excursion – Enjoy a relaxing and scenic 45 minute tour of the dam as we explore wetlands and the Bald Eagles. Rides begin at noon, 1:30p.m. and 3:00 p.m.

Our pontoon boat has 18 available seats. Reservations will be taken by calling the park office. You may also sign up in person at the park office until noon. Afterwards, reservations will be taken at the Eagle Watchers Tent at the boat launching area.

Please be at the boat launching area 5 minutes prior to departure or forfeit your space.
