HYDE – The Clearfield Chiefs made it back-to-back wins for the first time this season by overtaking Brookville 8-3 in Jefferson County Legion League baseball action at the Bison Sports Complex Thursday evening.
Originally scheduled for Brookville\’s home diamond, the game was moved because of field conditions.
Jared Heschke\’s solo home run in the second inning and Dustin Dombrowski\’s triple and Nick Bishop\’s grounder in the third gave the visitors a 2-0 lead.
Aided by a pair of double plays, Bishop faced the minimum nine batters going to the fourth inning.
Justin Hoffman led off with the first of his three singles, giving him nine hits in the last three games. He advanced to second on a passed ball and scored on Kyle Timchak\’s single.
A wild pitch, a walk and Tanner St. Clair\’s forceout tied the game. Pitcher Chad Zurat singled home the go-ahead run, and Aaron Sayers stole home when Zurat got into a rundown between first and second base.
Clearfield, 3-1 in the JCL and 4-3 overall, came right back with another foursome in the fifth with Hoffman, St. Clair and Andrew Redden driving in runs.
Zurat pitched a six-hitter for his second victory. He struck four and walked two.
Timchak had two hits for the Chiefs, who will host Punxsutawney Sunday at 5 p.m.
