Clearfield Woman Accused of Bringing Contraband into Jail has Hearing Continued

CLEARFIELD – A Clearfield woman accused of smuggling drugs into Clearfield County Jail had her case continued on Wednesday.

Alyssa Emigh is charged with contraband/controlled substance; possession of a controlled substance, contraband/inmate; intentional possession of a controlled substance by person not registered; altered, misbrand and controlled substance.

According to the affidavit of probable cause on May 9 at 12:10 a.m. the Lawrence Township Police Department was contacted by the Clearfield County Jail about a report of contraband at the jail.

Officer Charles Marshall Jr. responded and was advised by Sgt. Randy Stark that Emigh was found to be in possession of medication pills. Stark told the officer that Emigh had the pills concealed in her vagina.

Marshall then spoke with Corrections Officer Audrey Burns who told him that she was told by two other inmates that Emigh was in possession of the pills. She said Emigh was searched and the pills were located. Marshall was given the pills, which were in a zipper baggie. Four Zanex were inside a rubber glove finger in the bag, and three Klonopin were also hidden. Marshall was advised that some of these pills were given to other inmates.

Marshall interviewed one inmate who stated that Emigh had given her a Klonopin.

Marshall then interviewed Emigh. According to the affidavit she told Marshall that she was in jail for 48 hours due to a probation violation. She said that she was prescribed the medication, which was why she brought it into the jail. She said that she brought the pills because the last time she was in jail it took the nurse two weeks to provide her with her medication.

Emigh denied giving pills to other inmates and claimed that they did not like her. She then provided Marshall with a written statement in which she admitted to bringing the drugs into the jail. It stated that she had no intent to distribute them to others, she just wanted to be able to sleep while she was there because the nurse takes two weeks to bring her the medication and last time she was there she got ill and lost 15 pounds. She wrote in her statement that she has severe panic attacks and needs the pills. She stated that she knew it was wrong and will never do it again, she just did not want to get sick.

Marshall then interviewed another inmate who said that Emigh was in her bed and asked her if she could have some noodles. The woman told Marshall that she noticed Emigh doing something else and asked what it was. She said that Emigh said it was a Zanex and asked her if she wanted one. Thompson told Marshall she received a quarter Zanex.

Marshall interviewed another inmate. This inmate told Marshall that she received a half a Zanex from Emigh. She said that Emigh came to her cell and asked her if she wanted one. She also said that she saw Emigh give a pill to one of the other inmates Marshall interviewed.
