Crews Battle Early-Morning Blaze at Wendy’s in DuBois

DUBOIS – Early Tuesday morning the Sandy Township Fire Department and other emergency agencies were called to a restaurant fire along the Bee Line Highway.

According to the report emergency responders were called to Wendy’s Old Fashioned Hamburgers, owned by John Stock Steve Buchannan. The call came out at 1:35 a.m. All Sandy Township units and volunteers from the DuBois City Fire Company responded.

The fire was in a roof-truss area of the dining area of Wendy’s. The fire was downed quickly and extinguished in about 20 minutes, saving the structure. Damage to the building was contained in the dining area and the remainder of the building had smoke damage.

A state police fire marshal from Punxsutawney is investigating the fire. No injuries were reported at the scene.

Traffic along state Route 255 was detoured through the DuBois Mall parking lot for about one hour.

Assisting at the scene were the Clearfield County Emergency Management Agency, Sandy Township EMA, DuBois Emergency Medical Services Ambulance, Buffalo-Pittsburgh Railroad Company, Penelec and the Sandy Township Police Department.

“I want to thank all the responding companies for their quick action that eliminated a potential disaster,” said Sandy Township Fire Chief Bob Wilson.
