PUNXSUTAWNEY – Allie Miller cracked a pair of two-run doubles to lead Punxsutawney past Clearfield 7-3 in a District 9 Northern Allegany League Big School Division softball make-up game at Harry Noerr Field Saturday morning.
The win enabled the Lady Chucks to tie DuBois for the first-year league\’s championship. The rivals split their season series and matched 9-1 records.
Kelsey Cook had Clearfield shut out on two hits going to the seventh inning.
Suzie Colesar ignited the Lady Bison rally with a double.
After Chantel Read singled, Andrea Butler drilled a double into the left field corner for two runs and then scored on a throwing error as Carrie Harbold beat out a bunt single.
Punxsy turned a fly ball into a double play to end the game and close the regular season at 18-2.
Miller\’s key hits came in the third and sixth innings off Butler. Sara Ruehle singled for an RBI, and Taylor Powell had a sacrifice fly in the third frame.
Cook struck out nine and walked one for her sixth win without a loss.
The Lady Bisons, 3-5 in the D9NAL and 4-14 overall, will bring down the curtain on their season Monday with a D9NAL double-header at St. Marys.
The first game, which also will count in the Central Penn League, will start at 2 p.m.
