Painting Unveiled at DuBois Area Middle School

DUBOIS – A new painting hangs in the DuBois Area Middle School near the ceiling.

The Mount Vernon Ladies Association chose the middle school to receive one of 2000 Washington portraits. The MVLA began the campaign to counter balance the declining number of George Washington portraits that can be found in schools.

It was through the efforts of the eighth-grade U.S. History teacher Kim Gallagher, Principal Dan Hawkins and Secretary Christine Moore, that the middle school received the portrait. Gallagher learned of the campaign.

To be eligible, the principle of the school had to write a request and within said request say that the portrait of the first president would be hung in a prominent location.

Displayed near the painting is also a 3-by-5 foot U.S. Flag that was flown at Mount Vernon.
