Lady Tide Seeded Second for D9 A Playoffs

CURWENSVILLE – The once-beaten Curwensville Lady Tide has received the No. 2 seed and a first-round bye for the 2009 PIAA District 9 Class A Playoffs, according to pairings released by District 9 Softball Committee chairperson Jerry Linsenbigler of Curwensville.
 
Undefeated Coudersport (19-0) rated the top seed ahead of coach Allen Leigey\’s Lady Tide, which took a 17-1 record into its Moshannon Valley League showdown at West Branch Friday.
 
On Wednesday, Curwensville will host the winner of Monday\’s game between seventh seed Clarion-Limestone and 10th seed Northern Potter.
 
Other first-round action sends No. 13 Ridgway to No. 4 Clarion, No. 12 East Forest to No. 5 Smethport, No. 11 DuBois Central Catholic to No. 6 Elk County Catholic and No. 9 Otto-Eldred to No. 8 Allegheny-Clarion Valley.
 
The quarterfinals are set for Wednesday, with dates and sites for the semifinals and championship game to be determined later.
 
The District 9 champion and runner-up will advance to the state playoffs.
 
Only three teams will vie for the District 9 Class AA title.
 
No. 2 Karns City and No. 3 Kane will meet for the right to take on No. 1 Moniteau for the crown.
 
In Class AAA, Punxsutawney is the uncontested champion and will meet the District 6 champ in a play-in game for the state tournament, the winner to test the District 7 champ in the first round.
