CURWENSVILLE – Individuals and families are encouraged to participate in the Women’s Health Task Force of Clearfield County’s inaugural “Walking Your Way to Health & Wellness” event on May 16 at the Curwensville Community Center and nearby Rails to Trails. This event is free to the public and is taking the place of the task force’s annual spring retreat.
The wellness walk will be held from 9:00 a.m. to noon. A warm –up time and stretching, sponsored by Penn State Nutrition Links, will kick off the walk. A presentation on “Selecting Sneakers,” by Rapid Transit Sports will occur at 10:00 and 11:00 a.m. Sixteen wellness stations will be located at intervals along the local Rails to Trails, in both the Clearfield and Grampian directions. Those who visit all the stations will be walking or biking 3.2 miles.
“We have this great resource, our local Rails to Trails, and so many people either don’t know about it or have never walked or biked on it. This wellness walk provides a great opportunity to experience the trail and learn about caring for your health at the same time,” stated Extension Educator and Women’s Health Task Force ChairpersonAndrea Bressler.
Wellness station topics include: drinks & sugars; go green; heart health; geocaching; strength training; Lyme disease; bike safety; stroke prevention; natural highs; Curves of Clearfield; healthy marriage; hand washing & sodium; sun safety’ diabetic foot care; jumping rope & hula hoops; emergencies. Those attending the walk are invited to visit any or all of the stations.
Gift bags will be provided to the first 100 people who complete the evaluation card provided at the beginning of the event. One gift bag per family will be provided. Door prizes will be awarded and light refreshments will be available for sale. In the event of inclement weather, the wellness stations will be moved indoors at the Curwensville Community Center.
