CLEARFIELD – “The Friends of the Area Agency on Aging” Auxiliary recently presented a check to the Clearfield County Area Agency on Aging, Inc. for the purchase and installation of a back-up generator at the agency’s Meal Production and Distribution Facility in Clearfield. Auxiliary President Vicki Myers presented the check for $22,877 to CCAAA Executive Director John Kordish and Dave Osterhout, CCAAA Facilities and Vehicle Manager. The Auxiliary had previously entered into a multi-year commitment to raise the necessary funds but was able to successfully meet their pledge in only one year.
“We are grateful for the tremendous and on-going support from the Friends of the Area Agency on Aging,” commented Kordish. “Because of their effort, we can be assured that despite weather related power outages, we will still be able to produce meals for homebound elders throughout the county.”
Auxiliary funds are raised through their annual membership campaign and the Anne S. Thacik Charity Auction. The membership campaign kicked off in April. The goal for this year is 950 members. Membership dues are $7 per person or $10 per couple. Members receive a discount card for local merchants, the bi-monthly “Lifespan” newsletter, and periodic updates on auxiliary and agency activities.
The charity auction is held each year in October and was named in memory of Anne Thacik, a long time aging advocate and former Board President of the Area Agency on Aging, as well as, the first president of the Friends of the Area Agency on Aging. This year’s Auction will be held on Thursday, October 15, 2009 at the Clearfield Knights of Columbus.
Previously, funds raised have been used to purchase items such as computer equipment and Automated External Defibrillators for the county’s Centers for Active Living. In more recent years, the auxiliary purchased a walk-in freezer and cooler at the Meal Production and Distribution Facility and funded the construction of a bi-pass around this facility to improve traffic flow.
The Friends of the Area Agency on Aging Auxiliary was formed in July 1995 with the purpose of promoting and supporting the services and programs of the Clearfield County Area Agency on Aging Inc. and its charitable foundation, Mature Resources Foundation.
