Lansberry Tosses Perfect Game as Lady Tide Best ECC 2-0

ST. MARYS – Holly Lansberry threw her second perfect game of the season, and third no-hitter, as Curwensville knocked off the Lady Crusaders of Elk County Catholic (ECC) 2-0 on Tuesday in St. Marys. The game was called due to rain in the top of the sixth.

The victory in the District 9 Northern Allegany League Small School Southern Tier leaves the Lady Tide with a 10-0 season record. Curwensville has now won 27 straight regular season games. The last time the Tide lost a regular season game was on April 9, 2008 to Clearfield, 5-1.

Lansberry picked up 13 strikeouts in the rain shortened game, bringing her season total to 119 in 52 innings. She now trails Jen Wagner of Glendale by 31 K’s to become the area\’s all-time strikeout queen. Lansberry’s career total now stands at 691.

First baseman Stacey Johnson was the offensive hero as she hit a one out single in the top of the fourth inning to drive in the only runs of the contest. Johnson’s single plated both Shannon McDonald and Ashley Demchak.

Lauren Evers, ECC’s starting pitcher, went the entire five innings and pitched a pretty good game herself in limiting the Lady Tide to their lowest offensive output of the year. Although she struck out only one Lady Tide her defense was right behind her.

Curwensville coach Allen Leigey said after the game, “We hit the ball well today, but we hit the ball right at their defense all day long. Give Elk County credit, they played a very good game.”

A quick look at the box score tells the story of a pretty plain ballgame, with no frills or thrills. Curwensville had just four hits on the afternoon, all singles.

With the win the Lady Tide also remain undefeated in the District 9 Northern Allegany League Small School Division Southern Tier at 6-0 and in sole possession of first place.

The Lady Tide will attempt to stay unbeaten when they host Johnsonburg on Wednesday in a game that starts at 4:15 pm and is also another D-9 Northern Allegany League contest.
