Lady Tide Remain Unbeaten, Shut Out Johnsonburg 10-0

CURWENSVILLE — When a team has a lot of momentum on its side, it is tough for any opposition to take them down.. In the case of the Curwensville Lady Tide, momentum is clearly on their side, as they continued their undefeated season Wednesday with a 10-0 victory over visiting Johnsonburg.

Pitcher Holly Lansberry backed up her previous night\’s perfect game with another perfecto, going five innings and striking out 13, bringing her career strike-out total to 704.

“Holly has just been knocking them down all year long,” said head coach Allen Leigey.

Scoring got underway early, as Lansberry was able to score following a Johnsonburg error in the first inning. However, the second inning is where the Lady Tide essentially put the game away.

After Johnsonburg pitcher Paige DeCecchis walked Stacey Johnson, left-fielder Sara Clark smacked the first pitch she saw right over the center field fence, making the score 3-0. Molly Demchack and Erin Bressler followed by each hitting singles. Two batters later, center fielder Tess Bloom loaded the bases with a single to left field. After Shannon McDonald hit a pop up for the second out of the inning, catcher Ashley Demchak cleared the bases with a double.

“Sara (Clark)’s home run really got us going there,” said Leigey.

The Lady Tide added two more runs in the fourth after Demchak, who was 3 for 3, hit a single to bring in both Bloom and Erin Bressler, giving Curwensville an 8-0 lead. In the fifth inning, Johnson got her second walk of the game. After consecutive outs by Clark and pinch-hitter Jenae Stiles, another pinch-hitter, Madison Peterman, hit a single to center to advance Johnson to second. Lansberry was next at bat and hit a 3-ball, 1-strike pitch into left field to bring in the final runs of the game.

Leigey was very happy with all his players in how well they performed at the plate.

“We were slow out of the gate, but once we got the bats going, we were tough to beat,” said Leigey. “The girls are very disciplined in deciding when to swing. Overall, we were solid top to bottom.”

The Lady Tide will try to remain perfect on the season as they will travel to face West Branch on Friday.
