CURWENSVILLE – Number six is now in the books for the Curwensville Lady Tide softball team as they conquered visiting Glendale Monday afternoon 16-0 in another game called due to the mercy rule.
The victory gives the Lady Tide a 6-0 record for the season, with a 2-0 start in the Moshannon Valley League (MVL). The Lady Vikings drop to 0-2 in the MVL and 1-6 overall.
Holly Lansberry picked up her second no-hitter of the year by tossing a perfect game against Glendale. The senior struck out nine and moved into sole possession of second place on the area’s all time strikeout list with 644, surpassing former Philipsburg-Osceola standout pitcher Brittany Murphy (641).
Curwensville scored in every inning to make the game a short one as Sara Clark, junior left fielder, and Ashley Demchak, senior catcher, each knocked in four runs. Senior third baseman Jenessa Stiles had three RBI’s of her own, and smacked a triple in the process.
Junior center fielder Tess Bloom had three hits with Lansberry, Demchak, Jenessa Stiles and Jenae Stiles all contributing two hits to pace the victory for Curwensville. Lansberry also had an extra base hit, a triple.
Curwensville head coach Allen Leigey said after the game, “Once again I have to say we are really hitting the ball well. We did exactly what we had to do today.”
Leigey was glad to see Bloom come alive at the plate, “On a day when McDonald (Shannon) didn’t get a hit it was great to see Tess (Bloom) pick up three. That was nice to see as I am sure that will boost her confidence at the plate.”
Next up for Curwensville is a doubleheader against Sheffield Tuesday afternoon starting at 4:00 pm on the Lady Tide’s home field in a District 9 Allegany League Small School Division Southern Tier contest.
