Rendell Creates Stimulus Oversight Commission

HARRISBURG – To ensure that federal stimulus dollars are spent wisely, transparently and in a manner that ensures accountability, Gov. Edward G. Rendell signed an executive order creating the Pennsylvania Stimulus Oversight Commission.

“The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act enables Pennsylvania to provide struggling families with relief that will help them recover from these tough economic times,” the governor said. “I want to ensure that every dollar is spent wisely, transparently and in a manner that ensures accountability. That is why I have already established a Web site for tracking the money and today I am creating an oversight commission for the funding.”

The commission will include members of all four state legislative caucuses, the congressional delegation, representatives of the AFL-CIO, United Way and the PA Chamber of Business and Industry. The commission’s first meeting will be held in Harrisburg on March 31 following the governor’s announcement of the state’s Chief Accountability Officer for federal stimulus funds.
