Preschoolers Around Town

CLEARFIELD – The spring preschool programs at the Joseph and Elizabeth Shaw Public Library will begin the week of April 13. The theme is “Preschoolers Around the Town” and registration is currently underway. During the five week session, preschoolers in the Toddle Time and Story Time classes will be visiting CAST, The Ritz Theatre, The Clearfield Progress, and the Clearfield County Historical Museum. Baby Time will be held at the Library according to the usual schedule.

The spring story session will kickoff during National Library Week, which is April 12 – 18. Clearfield Area Kiwanis will be sponsoring their annual literacy event and will be featuring the 2009 One Book, If I were a Penguin by Wendell and Florence Minor.

“This annual event promises to be an enjoyable one hour program for all area preschoolers,” stated Paula Marshall, library director, “We encourage parents to register their family for the Kiwanis event.” The One Book program requires special registration and does not require a child to register for “Preschoolers Around the Town.”

Baby time is a half-hour program designed to introduce to parents and babies 6 months to 2 years of age the rewards of the library and the importance of reading to children at a young age. The class times are Wednesday or Thursday at 10:30 a.m. both days.

Toddler time is a 45-minute program offered for children aged 2 to 3 years of age and story time is an hour long class for the 3, 4 and 5 year olds. Both toddler time and story time incorporate stories, finger plays, puppets, games, crafts, music and more into a program to encourage a love of reading and libraries, promote cognitive and language development, and assist in the life long learning process.

Class times for the toddler group are Wednesday or Thursday at 11:15 a.m. Story times are offered on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. and Wednesday at 1:30 p.m.
