Troop G Announces Arrest in Heroin Investigation

PHILIPSBURG – State police have announced the arrest of a man accused of selling drugs in the Philipsburg area.

Troop G Vice and Narcotics Unit said after they began receiving information about large amounts of heroin being sold in the Philipsburg area they sent undercover troopers to make controlled buys. The troopers went to a residence along Copelin Road in Decatur Township. Between Feb. 12 and March 4 four separate controlled heroin buys were made form the residence. The buys consisted of 10 packets, 18 packets, 44 packets and 18 packets. Over $2,000 in official state funds were used for the undercover heroin buys.

On March 4 troopers received a search warrant for the Copelin Road address. The warrant was approved by Clearfield County District Attorney William A. Shaw Jr. and then issued by Magisterial District Judge James Hawkins of Houtzdale.

On March 5 members of the state police Special Emergency Response Team executed the warrant. The residence was searched and 47 packets of heroin were found. Troopers also found crack cocaine, about two pounds of marijuana, drug paraphernalia and US currency.

As a result 44-year-old Leonard Croyle Jr., also known as Sonny Croyle, was arrested and arraigned on charges of four counts of delivery of a controlled substance, four counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and four counts of possession of a controlled substance.

Additional charges are pending and shall be filed at a later date.

Croyle was placed in Clearfield County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.
