Sandy Township Holds Second CDBG Hearing

DUBOIS – The second CDBG hearing was held by the Sandy Township Supervisors to discuss the 2009 Community Development Block Grant Program and break down the funding between projects.

Gene Zanella of Stiffler, McGraw & Associates from returned to explain the township was applying to the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, DCED, for 2009 funds that would roughly come to $180,000.

According to Zanella the money will be split between four activities after input by the Supervisors: Elimination of slums and blight, Maloney Road and sewer project, sanitary sewer improvements at Garden Grove apartments, and program administration.

The Maloney Road water project will be getting $60,000 of the funds. Zanella gave percentages for the other activities. Program administration costs will take up 18 percent of the funds, or $32,400 if the township gets $180,000. The slum and blight elimination will receive 30 percent of the funds, potentially $54,000. Whatever is left over will go to the Garden Grove improvements, which is an estimated $33,600.

Deadline for public comments is April 2 as voting on the final application will take place at the April 6 Supervisor’s meeting.
