DASD Announces Two New Programs

DUBOIS – The DuBois Area School District’s regular meeting saw three announcements.

First, Title 1 and special education will be receiving $1.883 million over the next couple years. This money will be coming to the school district thanks to the stimulus bill passed by the federal government.

Second and third, two new programs are now in effect in the school district. One is an alert system designed to call parents and staff of alerts. The second, V-soft, uses visitor’s driver’s licenses to see if they are on the Megan’s Law list.

“We are just using it to start with weather related events, but we will use it with other things,” said superintendent Timothy Deluccia.

The alert system is currently being used for early dismissals, delays and cancellations. There are plans to expand it to planned deviations from the schedule and to announce such things as impending report card releases.
