CLEARFIELD – As part of its plans to renovate and upgrade their facilities the Clearfield YMCA asked the Clearfield County Commissioners for their support.
Rob Swales, executive director of the Clearfield County Economic Development Authority explained that the Clearfield YMCA needs the county to apply for $1 million in R-CAP grant funds. That money would be reimbursement funds for costs incurred in Phase I of the project.
According to Don Herres, chief executive officer of the Clearfield YMCA, Phase I entails the construction of a new swimming pool, gymnasium, locker room and lobby area.
County Solicitor Kim Kesner recommended that the commissioners approve the agreement in the form presented or as a similar form to give the CCEDC’s solicitor time to review the document.
The commissioners followed Kesner’s advice and approved the document as such.
“Hopefully the state will follow through with this,” said Kesner.
Commissioner Chairman Joan Robinson-McMillen noted that the Clearfield Community really stepped up to the plate in raising funds for the project.
Herres noted that $1.8 million was raised locally.
“Everybody in Clearfield should be very proud of themselves,” said McMillen.
